EcoSystem Ponds
A pond that cleans itself. Plants, gravel, aeration and fish do the filtering, so the water stays clear without chemicals and without a weekly routine.
What makes a pond an ecosystem?
Four things have to work together: the plants and fish, the water, the air, and the sun. Get the balance right and the pond looks after itself. Get it wrong and you spend every summer fighting algae.
Plants take up the nutrients algae would otherwise feed on. Gravel across the bottom houses the bacteria that break down waste. Aeration keeps oxygen moving so those bacteria can work. Sunlight drives the whole thing, which is why placement matters more than most people expect.
Why we build them this way
Our background is wastewater treatment, industrial aquaculture and aquariums. Those are all the same problem: keeping a closed body of water healthy.
A pond is that problem in a garden, so we work out the filtration, planting and circulation on paper before anyone breaks ground.
What does it take to look after?
Far less than people expect. A balanced pond needs a clean-out in spring, an eye on the pump, and a net over it during leaf fall. No chlorine, no weekly dosing.
If you would rather not do any of it, we maintain the ponds we build.
EcoSystem Ponds we’ve built
Our background is water treatment.
Before ponds, our work was wastewater treatment, industrial aquaculture and aquariums. All three come down to keeping a closed body of water healthy, and that decides whether a pond is still clear in its third summer. So we plan the filtration, planting and circulation before we dig, and we test the water before we treat it.
“They did a beautiful job designing our backyard! The team is very friendly and kept the project on time. I would highly recommend them.”
